The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) distributes millions of social grants to vulnerable people living in South Africa who require financial assistance. These Sassa grants are used by beneficiaries to purchase necessities and access basic services.
It distributes more than 18 million permanent grants to beneficiaries every month. These permanent grants include the Older Persons grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
Individuals who meet the eligibility criteria for the permanent grants distributed by Sassa are encouraged to submit a grant application online. While the most popular way to apply for grants is to visit a Sassa office, technological advancements mean that people can apply for the grants distributed by Sassa from the comfort of their own homes.
People can apply for several of the permanent grants distributed by Sassa using the Sassa online services portal. The Sassa services portal is separate from the main Sassa website.
Applications for the Child Support Grant, Older Persons Grant and Disability Grant can be submitted online.
Step 1: Visit the Sassa Services Portal
Step 2: Register as a new user
Step 3: Log in to the Sassa services portal with your newly created username and password.
Step 4: Click on “Apply For A Grant”
Step 5: Type the grant you want to apply for i.e. Older Persons Grant or Child Support Grant or Foster Child Grant.
Step 6: Complete the grant application form by entering information in all the required fields
Step 7: Print the generated affidavit and have it certified by a Commissioner of Oaths
Step 8: Print, sign and submit the Bank Payment form with the affidavit.
Step 9: Upload all supporting documents in PDF format as indicated by the application form
