Koktel Molotof
Molotov Cocktail (فیلم ایرانی کوکتل مولوتف) is a 2025 Iranian comedy directed by Hossein Amiri Doomari in his first solo directorial effort, written by Ahmad Rafiee-zadeh and produced by Mohammad Kamali-pour. Set during the late 1970s, the film captures the tension and transformation of Iranian society just before the Islamic Revolution, using humor and nostalgia to reflect on a pivotal moment in the country’s history.
The story follows a popular young cabaret singer and his band as their careers come under threat amid the rising tide of political upheaval. With entertainment venues shutting down and societal norms shifting, the group devises a secret plan to resist the changes and hold onto their music and identity. However, their efforts lead to unintended consequences that challenge their loyalty, courage, and creativity.
The cast features well-known Iranian actors including Amin Hayai, Ahmad Mehranfar, Setareh Pasyani, and Peyman Jamshidi, along with Yekta Naser and Niloofar Khoukhani. Running approximately 106 minutes, the film was released in March 2025 and quickly gained commercial success, earning over two billion toman at the domestic box office.
Though rich in period detail and strong performances, some critics noted the film leaned too heavily on familiar comedic tropes and lacked narrative originality.
