To Faghat Madare Man Bash
To Faghat Madare Man Bash (فیلم ایرانی تو فقط مادر من باش) is an emotional Iranian short film that delves into the tension between maternal love and romantic longing. The story centers on Sara, a divorced mother who has begun a new relationship, hoping to rebuild her life. However, her teenage son strongly opposes her partner, creating a painful divide in their once-close relationship. Sara finds herself torn—she yearns for both the companionship of her new love and the love and respect of her child.
Directed and written by Roqiyeh Tavakoli, the film portrays Sara’s internal struggle as she’s forced to make an impossible choice: stay true to her desire for happiness, or protect the emotional bond with her son. The short runtime (around 16 minutes) allows the story to remain intimate and focused, highlighting the raw emotions of a mother at a crossroads. Actress Sara Bahrami delivers a powerful and vulnerable performance, revealing the complexities of a woman caught between love and duty.
The film has been recognized for its deeply human, socially resonant themes—it was selected for the Porto Short Film Festival and earned Bahrami a Best Actress award there. Through its simple but poignant storytelling, “You Just Be My Mother” offers a quiet, thoughtful meditation on family, sacrifice, and the choices that define us.
